Energy storage that
doesn't burn.

Attune Labs is an independent R&D studio engineering sodium-ion battery systems with regenerative energy recovery — a safer, lithium-free alternative to the home and grid batteries shipping today.

The world is electrifying faster than it can be made safe and affordable. Lithium is flammable, supply-constrained, and miserable in the cold. We think the next decade of stationary storage belongs to a more abundant element — sodium.

The studio

An R&D studio, not a single product

Attune Labs exists to take hard energy problems from first principles to working hardware. We pick a problem where the physics is sound but the engineering is unfinished, then build relentlessly toward a demonstrable system.

01

Grounded in physics

Every project starts with an honest energy balance. We pursue gains that thermodynamics actually allows — efficiency, safety, and cost — not perpetual motion.

02

Software-grade rigor

Built by an engineer with 15+ years shipping production systems. We model, instrument, and iterate on hardware the way good teams ship software.

03

Commercial from day one

We design for the customers who feel storage pain first — data centers, telecom, cold-climate microgrids — and a clear path to a fundable, ownable product.

Current project

A sodium-ion storage system with regenerative recovery

Think of it as a Powerwall-class home and commercial battery — but built on sodium-ion cells instead of lithium. The pack is charged from solar or the grid, and an onboard regenerative stage recaptures a portion of the energy normally lost during conversion and standby, improving real-world round-trip efficiency.

It is an externally powered storage system, not a generator: it stores energy you supply and gives more of it back. The win is safety, cold-weather performance, abundant materials, and squeezing out losses other packs leave on the table.

Non-flammable chemistryNo thermal-runaway fires, no active cooling required.
Abundant, low-cost materialsSodium is everywhere; no lithium, cobalt, or nickel.
Cold-climate readyHolds usable capacity where lithium falls off a cliff.
Regenerative recoveryReclaims part of conversion and standby losses.

Where it matters first

Built for the places lithium struggles

Safety, temperature tolerance, and total cost of ownership decide these markets — exactly where sodium-ion has the edge.

Data-center & telecom backup

Non-flammable cells reduce fire-suppression and insurance overhead, and tolerate hot equipment rooms. Sodium-ion backup can cut multi-year total cost of ownership versus incumbent options for 5G and edge sites.

Cold-climate microgrids

Keeps usable capacity at −40°C without battery heaters draining the pack.

Commercial peak-shaving

Daily cycling to trim demand charges, with a safety profile facilities teams can live with.

C&I

Home & grid firming

A safer home battery that pairs with rooftop solar, plus front-of-meter firming as grids absorb more intermittent renewables. Stationary storage is one of the fastest-growing segments of the energy transition.

Industry sourcing

Sodium-ion is already commercialized at scale by CATL, BYD, Natron, and Peak Energy — validating the chemistry. Attune Labs' opportunity is in system design, regenerative recovery, and the underserved safety-first segments.
